Prinkshop, a recent addition to our Labels We Love family, makes philanthropy look especially good. Consider our exclusive tee—with its French slogan, supersoft fabric and easy shape, it’s a total winner even before you discover that 30 percent of the profits benefit Edible Schoolyard (an awesome organization that teaches kids how to grow and cook nutritious food). Grounded with attention-grabbing graphics, prinkshop designs are tees with a message—without that whole “got it for free at a fun run” vibe. (You know what we’re talking about, right?)

Founder Pamela Bell got the idea for prinkshop during the 2008 presidential election, when she and her three kids screen printed and sold totes to encourage voter turnout. Eventually this project inspired the entire prinkshop line. Pamela now teams up with nonprofits regularly to screen print messages touting their causes in a fun, almost cryptic way that inspires conversation and curiosity. To aid the discussion, each tee has a “flip tag,” a quick cheat sheet about each organization’s mission, printed at the inside bottom hem of the tee. Pamela’s advice for being socially active on a day-to-day basis? “Wear what you care about!”

For their Edible Schoolyard tee, the prinkshop team dreamed up the phrase “Pour l’amour du frais,” translating from the French to “for the love of fresh.” Then, the team mocked up the logo on an oversized ping-pong table in their bustling East Village studio before approaching the charity. Says Pamela, “We loved that [Edible Schoolyard] was turning gardens and kitchens into classrooms.”

NY friends: We’re teaming up with prinkshop for a fun event at our Madison Avenue store. Stop by and see the team screen printing totes and tees live. RSVP here.
