When we teamed up with cult-favorite French label Sézane on a second collection, we knew just where to look for inspiration: two of our favorite cities (and our respective hometowns), New York and Paris. And we can’t wait for it to arrive next week. To tide you (and your closets) over, we asked designer Morgane Sézalory to share a few other things inspiring her.
From a quintessentially French film to the musician she has loved for years, here’s what our Parisian counterpart is loving right now.
Jardin du Palais Royal
It’s hard to believe this magical spot is in the middle of a city! When you’re there, it’s like time stops. When I have nowhere to be, I head to the park to nap, read and lie in the grass of the gardens.
Jules et Jim
The most stylish movie. It’s about love and freedom and how both those things can be tragic. Also, there’s nothing more French than Jeanne Moreau singing “Le Tourbillon” while wearing stripes.
Growing up, my mom’s art books were my toys, and Matisse’s Jazz was my favorite. I still love his aesthetic, especially paintings with his handwriting.
Nina Simone’s Music
Her songs were the soundtrack to my twenties. And now, they’re the soundtrack to any road trip I take with my one-year-old daughter.
The Madewell et Sézane®, Paris, Mon Amour Tee
Stripes, handwriting, an easy-to-wear shape. It’s as if Madewell and Sézane had a baby. Wait, we did!
