Noticed: A New Way to Do Denim on Denim

Not to say we don’t love the classic “Texas tuxedo,” but with all the new denim silhouettes we’ve been seeing, why not experiment a little? Thankfully, we found all the inspiration we needed right outside of our office: a chambray shirt worn with a denim dress or skirt.

The key is to keep things slim and a little long—more of a ’70s vibe than early ’00s. (This isn’t the time to recycle an old mini skirt, weather-appropriate as it may be.) We’ve been loving the look of knee-grazing overall dresses, but close-cut skirts have that same laid-back sexiness.

This classic combination is something of a blank canvas, so shoes are your best bet for adding some personality: ankle boots deliver maximum Western vibes while a flat sandal shows a bit more skin. It’s easy to tailor to any occasion. And isn’t that what denim’s all about?

P.S. Time to retire your old jeans? Recycle them at a Madewell store, and our friends at Blue Jeans Go Green™ will turn them into housing insulation. Oh, and you’ll get $20 off a new pair of jeans. More details here.
