Noticed: Pairing Plaid with Plaid (and More Plaid)

So, you’ve found yourself with an overabundance of plaid. Good—it’s the uniform of the season, after all, and we’re right there with you. Now here’s what to do with it all.

No matter how edited your wardrobe may be, chances are it’s full of, well, a lot of pieces with something in common. (Who doesn’t want a steady sense of style?) Right now, that means plaid everything: scarves, button-downs, denim, coats—the list is almost endless. But instead of wearing one piece at a time, we’ve seen two, three or even four worn together.

It’s an autumnal take on monochrome—a monoprint. The key is to stick with one color family and play around with scale. For every large-scale plaid, like a big buffalo check, add one tightly checked tartan. Shirts and scarves are an obvious and easy pairing, but we’re loving less familiar additions, like a zip-up vest or a cocoon coat balanced with solid pants. Easy? Unexpected? Obsession justified? Check, check and check.

One last thing to add to the mix? Our plaid-friendly playlist of grunge classics. Stream it here.
