Getting ready to go on a getaway? The last thing you want is to feel stressed about stuff like arriving at the airport on time, who’s going to dog sit for you or maybe (definitely) what to pack. We’re always looking for new ways to make vacay planning more streamlined, so we turned to our styling expert Lisa for some tips. Her advice? Pick a color and run with it—for the whole trip.

When it comes to monochromatic packing, Lisa says “it’s best to really commit. No regrets!” She recommends starting with bottoms and footwear. “Sure, everyone has a red tee, but if you’ve got a great pair of red pants, lead with that.” Another tip: Feel free to play with pattern (like stripes) and texture (i.e., embroidery)—just make sure they’re all in the same color family. Think more in tones than exactly matching hues. “As long as everything’s from the same side of the rainbow, you’re good,” says Lisa. So if you’re going for an all-pink wardrobe (see our latest faves for inspo), even adding in a warm yellow piece will work.

Most of all, make the process feel like a fun challenge, not a strict set of rules to be followed. Lisa thinks of it as “a new way to look at clothes you’ve been wearing forever. Get creative, like you’re editing your own capsule collection.” Well, when you put it that way…we’re totally game.
