We’re really into Austin chain-stitch collective Ft. Lonesome’s original embroidery designs—so much so that we’ve done a few collabs in the past and most recently had them do their thing on these limited-edition Sk8-Hi Vans®. Read on to learn more about the sneaks from the crew’s founder Kathie Sever, then nab a pair of your own (only 30 exist, so get on it).
Talk to us about the inspiration behind your design.
Working with a pair of sneakers and a 100-year-old embroidery machine is no easy feat, so our inspiration was more born of those limitations and necessity than anything else. Limitations, necessity and MAGIC. On top of all that, we were going for a playful design that didn’t feel too kitschy.
Where do you imagine someone wearing this pair?
Pretty much anywhere—except maybe a place where stomping in mud pits was the primary activity.
Pick a song that sums up the vibe of these Vans.
Now I can’t get “Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves out of my head. But seriously folks, these sneaks, like the song, are a bit throwback ’80s and basically made for any sunny day.
What’s your go-to wear-with-sneakers outfit?
Jeans and a T-shirt, which is my go-to wear-with-everything-always outfit.
And finally, what are three words you’d use to describe these sneaks?
White. For. Now. (Remember, no mud pits.)
