We’re all about doing what we can to give back all year round—but the holiday season calls for a little extra effort. Here are five ways, big and small, to get into the do well spirit this year.
1. KEEP IT CLOSE TO HOME
Think about what your local community could benefit from most right now—is it a beach cleanup, a park beautification project or just an extra set of hands at the food pantry? You can find plenty of neighborhood volunteer opportunities through this super-helpful website.
2. EMBRACE THE GIFT OF GIVING
Go extra thoughtful with presents this year and add a charitable donation in your giftee’s name. We love the idea of celebrating the ladies on our list by supporting organizations like Girls Inc. (their online form makes it supereasy too).
3. CLEAN OUT THAT CLOSET
Get a jump on your inevitable Kondo-inspired New Year’s resolution—drop off extra linens at a nearby animal rescue, collect clothes in good condition for homeless shelters and, as always, bring us your old jeans for recycling.
4. GET TOGETHER
Take advantage of time spent with loved ones and decide on a project to tackle together. Habitat for Humanity welcomes group volunteering and has chapters all across the world. Team Madewell participated in a New York house build recently—read about our experience for a taste of what it’s like.
5. MAKE A COMMITMENT
One of the best ways to keep the good vibes flowing all year round is to commit to giving a monthly gift to your favorite charity. Our friends at Surfrider Foundation spell out how even a small recurring donation can help protect oceans and beaches.
One last suggestion? Take advantage of our special offer this Giving Tuesday (November 28th), when we’ll donate 20 percent of your purchase price to Surfrider Foundation, Girls Inc. or Habitat for Humanity—the choice is yours at checkout. It’s the perfect way to take care of your gift list and give back to a worthy cause. More details here.
