We’re major fans of NYC dessert destination Milk Bar, so we joined forces with founder Christina Tosi on an exclusive collab of goodies—both to wear and to eat. Wanting to keep the festive feelings flowing, we asked Christina to share her top holiday tips—from what she wears on those marathon cookie-baking days, to the last-minute gift ideas that save her every time.
TREAT VOTED MOST LIKELY TO IMPRESS:
Cake truffles are my go-tos for people I’m hoping to impress! Milk Bar’s pumpkin pie or apple pie truffles are seasonal and bite-sized, so they make a great host gift. They also last a long time in the freezer, so there’s no pressure to eat them all at once (though I always do)!
PARTY DÉCOR ESSENTIALS:
When it comes time to decorate our office for the season, we keep it simple. Paper snowflakes all the way! Crowdsource them with anyone helping you set up (kids included) and you’ll have a fun, crafty team-building session! Stringing tree lights always helps set the mood too. Make extra snowflakes and wrap them around each bulb—it diffuses the light in the most romantically holiday way.
THE ULTIMATE CHEF UNIFORM:
I love anything comfortable and cute—overalls, or white jeans and a white shirt, etc. Converse are my favorite shoes for running back and forth between dry storage and the walk-in freezers.
We do a cookie swap at Milk Bar HQ every year. Everyone, even the non-bakers, brings their culinary chops to the table. I love seeing what people turn up with. Each baked good has a story and that inspires me. Plus, I’m a living, breathing cookie monster, so I show up ready to chow down.
BEST WAY TO GIVE BACK:
I buy and eat plenty of their breads and sit on the board of Hot Bread Kitchen, a NYC bakery that creates opportunities for immigrant women facing economic insecurity via careers in food. This season, a portion of Milk Bar’s profits from all LIFE products (a selection of delicious slash good-for-you treats) will go to support them. I’d say help us, or find a cause near and dear to you. Doing good always feels great.
GO-TO LAST-MINUTE GIFT RECS:
I’m probably biased, but cookies! I grab a few of our assorted cookie tins when I need a gift in a rush. Or I pack one of our baking mixes and a set of OXO mixing bowls with a spatula—it’s the easiest and most fun gift to give.
HOLIDAY STRESS RELIEF TECHNIQUE:
Get cozy but stay active! I love to bundle up and go for an early-morning run or schedule a coffee walk with a friend at a nearby park.
Thanks for the tips, Christina. Before you start paper-snowflake making and cookie baking, take a second to treat yourself to some limited-edition Madewell x Milk Bar® goodies.
