This year we like to think we’ve really got your back—from gifts to buy, to what to wear, to how to make present wrapping not totally terrible. We’re sitting down with our team to glean a little pro advice to get you through the season with flying colors (blue being a nonnegotiable, of course). Next up is our friend, model and vintner Michele Ouellet. She divides her time between the East Coast (modeling) and the West (working for her family’s winery, Lorenza). So she knows a thing or two about schlepping from here to there. And not looking like she’s, you know, schlepping.
This year we like to think we’ve really got your back—from gifts to buy, to what to wear, to how to make present wrapping not totally terrible. We’re sitting down with our team to glean a little pro advice to get you through the season with flying colors (blue being a nonnegotiable, of course). Next up is Jay, the man behind the visual design in our stores. If anyone can share a thing or two about decorating for the season without going all tinsel and candy canes, it’s him. (Not that we have anything against tinsel and candy canes…)
Since launching their design blog Honestly WTF in 2010, best friends Lauren Kolodny and Erica Coffman have turned their love of great discoveries into a digital destination for just about everything, from recipes to street style, up-and-coming artists to chic DIYs. In the holiday spirit of sharing, we asked the web-savvy, California-based pair a few questions about how to #giftwell IRL.
Because it’s the one time of year when it’s totally OK to out-sparkle those twinkle lights, we’ve gathered some of our favorite gleaming and glittering gift ideas. An old-school silver harmonica for the musically (or nostalgically) inclined. Our shimmery Pavé Arrowstack Necklace as that perfect “you shouldn’t have” present. Or a little gem-like set of jacks to give that kid at heart a way to pass those long winter nights. And with that we say, shine on (and gift on).
For a fun lead-up to Christmas, we like to put our own spin on the tradition of Secret Santa: Instead of shopping for a secret someone, a mix of stylish pals shop from our Gift Well Guide and exchange presents only true friends would know to pick. To kick things off this year, we started with friends here at Madewell. Let the (virtual) unwrapping begin.
Says Alex: “Who doesn’t want a cool tee to rep her hometown? This Linen Los Angeles Tee is perfect for Jen.”
Says Jen: “Alex is the most prepared person I know. She’s the one who introduced me to the Tide To Go stick, and now I get to return the favor by gifting her the Minimergency Kit.”
Says Beth: “Michelle can wear heeled booties like they were sneaks, and the Billie Boot is the perfect height to pair with boyfriend jeans or a dress.”
Says Michelle: “Beth always visits her family in Ohio for Christmas. Our Transport Tote is the perfect carry-on for her.”
Says Dana: “Susan is in New York—downtown in Soho, to be exact—so she definitely needs this Funnelneck Sweater. Baby, it’s cold outside!”
Says Susan: “Dana, one of the best ladies I know, loves going on hikes with her two adorable pups. I’ll be giving her our Perfectly Shrunken Stripe Scarf so she can keep warm. Yes, it does get chilly in LA!”
