It’s a wrap party over here at Madewell HQ. We were so excited to launch our much-loved, vintage-inspired wrap top in even more colors and prints that we just had to dance about it. Check us out doing our thing above, then read on for more reasons to get wrapped up in this must-have wardrobe essential.
The International Women’s Day celebration continues (!). We’re back with another one of our favorite ladies—Arpana Rayamajhi. With a degree in painting and sculpture from the esteemed Cooper Union school, Arpana blends her artist’s sensibility with inspiration from her home country of Nepal to create jewelry that feels distinct, personal and special to wear. She’s also the cofounder of Dispose, a project that encouraged contributors from all over the world to tell their unique stories by using a disposable camera in one day. (Check out the archives here.) Read on to learn more about the jeweler-slash-artist-slash-Neil-Young-enthusiast, from her ever-changing coffee orders, to her tips for starting a business, to her own list of inspiring women.
Here’s a paradox: We just debuted a brand-new denim collection that’ll have you feeling like you traveled waaay back in time (in the very best way). We dreamed up a capsule of old-school-meets-right-now styles made from 100% cotton, no-stretch, keep-forever denim that breaks in beautifully. Wanna know more about these jeans-as-time-machines? Read on to see how different decades inspired some of our favorite styles.
Presenting: an extra-special edition of Ladies We Love in honor of International Women’s Day—the first of four features this month. We snagged an interview with Julia and Manjit, the writer and illustrator behind our new favorite read, The Little Book of Feminist Saints. Don’t let its slim, fits-into-a-crossbody size fool you—this small but mighty title is filled to the brim with inspiration, telling the stories of 100 extraordinary women from Maya Angelou to Malala Yousafzai. Get to know the creators, plus find out what else we’ve got going on for International Women’s Day below.
IN DEFENSE OF ALL WIDE-LEG PANTS, ALL THE TIME
an essay by Olivia Fleming
I remember the first time my ankles could finally breathe.
Maybe you’re an everyday nurse like Diana Prince by day and a golden-lasso-wielding Wonder Woman by night. Maybe your usually-chipper-self has a dark side that appears when you feel hangry. Or maybe you’re “the quiet one” whose inner pop star comes alive with a karaoke mic in hand. Alter egos come in many different forms—and in this case, yours just might be carrying one of our ready-for-anything canvas bags. Read on to find out which one will have you switching up your usual style.
You: can’t travel anywhere without an overstuffed rolling suitcase
Your alter ego carries: the streamlined Transport Weekender
Traveling with this rugged-cool weekender, you won’t need five extra outfit options because your alter ego is a frequent flier who has the versatile vacay wardrobe that goes seamlessly from coffee to cocktails and fits easily inside a just-spacious-enough bag. As your expert-packer other half, you always answer “yes” to a spontaneous road trip. Bonus points for calling shotgun.
We combed through your Qs on Instagram, and whether you’re looking to test the wide-leg waters, stumped when it comes to half-tucked shirts or just curious about what’s hot and happening in denim—we’ve got all the As for you. Read on for expert recommendations on how to wear our favorite fabric, straight from our Team Madewell stylists.
With the ease of a slipper and the put-togetherness of a pump, a good pair of mules is a wardrobe game changer. There are few other options that strike the polished-yet-comfortable balance so well, and it’s no wonder that statement-making ladies from Egyptian queens to movie stars were known to own a pair or two. Thanks to an extra layer of padding, our new mules feel even more cushy but still look just as sleek. And now we present a very specific—and admittedly silly—list of fancy-slash-comfy things to do in your fancy-slash-comfy mules.
It’s here, it’s here (!). Our curvy fit has arrived. We took classic skinnies with smoothing Magic Pockets in front and reengineered them for women with an hourglass shape—translation: if you have a booty, these jeans are for you. We chatted with our denim design expert, Aubrey, about how this style came to be and why she can’t wait for people to try ’em.
