As big fans of Unfortunate Portrait (i.e., Max Dower) and the exclusive sneaks he made for us last year, we just had to team up with the LA-based illustrator
again—this time on collectible tees featuring his punny, childlike doodles. Max was kind enough to answer a few questions for us recently, but instead of using words, he does what he does best: draws.
Who would be in your dream musical collab?
Being that a good T-shirt is one of our favorite things, we are superexcited about our collab with MONOGRAM. Lisa Mayock and Jeff Halmos, lovers of vintage tees and makers of vintage-inspired new ones, joined forces with our design team to create a mini collection that ticks all the retro-meets-right-now boxes. We chatted with Lisa about design inspiration and the Bill Wyman song that best reps the label’s aesthetic, among other things.
Some may argue that what you like in a tee says a lot about who you are. OK, we may argue this, but hear us out. It’s likely that you and your closest gal pal have different criteria when choosing a T-shirt while also sharing a like-mindedness on some points as well. It’s these nuances in taste that often extend beyond the sartorial and make two people so perfectly complementary. So we decided to explore this idea via three of our favorite duos—two pairs of sisters and one couple—and had them play a little game we call “Tees Tête-à-Tête.” They each answered the same questions and guessed how the other might respond. They discovered some stuff they didn’t even know about the other—and in turn revealed even more to us.
The graphic tee has never been more fun—courtesy of comic books, action figures and one bright Brooklyn artist.
